World Gold Council CEO to Headline Ghana’s Mining in Motion 2025

The Chief Executive Officer of the World Gold Council will deliver the keynote address at the inaugural Mining in Motion Summit, taking place from 2–4 June 2025 in Accra, Ghana. Tait’s participation underscores the event’s significance as a premier platform for dialogue and innovation in the mining sector.

Ghana, now Africa’s leading gold producer and the sixth-largest worldwide, is increasingly pivotal to global gold supply and market stability. The World Gold Council’s involvement in the summit, organised in partnership with the Ashanti Green Initiative and the World Bank, reflects the deepening international focus on Ghana’s mining ecosystem.

Through initiatives such as the Executive Program in Gold Reserves Management, the Council has worked to equip governments, including Ghana’s, with international best practices to strengthen reserve strategies and stimulate investment. Its Responsible Gold Mining Principles continue to guide producers on environmental stewardship, social impact and governance, which are  critical areas as gold producing nations push for more ethical, transparent operations.

Ghana’s mining industry has long-standing ties to the Council, with major operators such as Newmont Corporation, Gold Fields and AngloGold Ashanti among its members. These companies oversee flagship operations including Ahafo, Akyem, Tarkwa, Damang, Obuasi and Manso Nkwanta, forming the backbone of Ghana’s gold production.

Gold remains Ghana’s most valuable export, generating $11.6 billion in 2024 and accounting for 57% of the country’s export revenue. The sector continues to fuel national development, funding essential services such as healthcare and education. At the summit, Tait will offer insights on global market dynamics and how Ghana can strategically align with international benchmarks to enhance investment appeal, improve governance and unlock long term growth.

Mining in Motion is an initiative of the Ashanti Green Initiative, led by Oheneba Kwaku Duah, Prince of the Ashanti Kingdom. The summit serves as a high-level platform for dialogue, innovation and investment in Ghana’s mining future, with the World Bank and World Gold Council as key partners.
